Madrid’s stages are alive this season, filling the city with music, colour, and stories that stay with you long after the curtain falls. From Broadway legends like The Lion King, Wicked, and Les Misérables to bold new productions such as Cabaretat at UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz, Cinderella, and The Book of Mormon, the city’s theatres are turning every night into an encore. Here’s what’s lighting up Madrid right now.

Cabaret, the musical at the Kit Kat Klub

The Kit Kat Klub comes back to life inside the UMusic Hotel Teatro Albéniz with the new immersive production by LETSGO Company, running from September 18 to February 1 under the direction of Federico Bellone (Ghost, The Phantom of the Opera, Bailo Bailo). Starring Abril Zamora, Amanda Digón and Pepe Nufrio, this contemporary version of the Broadway classic transforms the theatre into a living cabaret where music, desire and rebellion intertwine. Set in 1930s Berlin, Cabaret invites audiences into a world where love flickers, lights dim and every note vibrates with danger and passion.

 

The Lion King

The Lion King: roaring louder than ever in Madrid
In its 15th season, The Lion King continues its reign on Gran Vía from the stage of Teatro Lope de Vega. Since its premiere in 2011, more than seven million people have enjoyed its magic in Madrid alone, part of the 112 million worldwide. With music by Elton John, Tim Rice, Lebo M. and Hans Zimmer, along with striking choreography and handcrafted puppetry, the production transforms the theatre into a living canvas of sound, color and movement. With over 50 international performers, it remains a celebration of art that transcends languages and one of the most unforgettable nights in the city.

Wicked, the musical

The Broadway phenomenon Wicked arrives in Madrid in October 2025, bringing the untold story of Oz to the stage of Nuevo Teatro Alcalá. Starting October 3, audiences will travel back to a time before Dorothy and meet Elphaba and Glinda, two young witches whose friendship defies gravity, expectations and fate. Produced by SOM Produce and directed by David Serrano, this global hit with music by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman blends humor, emotion and iconic songs like Defying Gravity and For Good. With over 60 million spectators worldwide, Wicked continues enchanting audiences and inviting us to reflect on what it truly means to be “good” or “wicked.”

Cinderella, the musical

This October, Cinderella takes the stage at Teatro Coliseum, reinvented for a new generation. Starting October 3, 2025, with performances from Tuesday to Sunday, Stage Entertainment Spain—producers of The Lion King, Aladdin and Anastasia—breathes new life into the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic with a live orchestra, stunning visuals and a refreshed spirit. More than a fairy tale, this Cinderella is a story of courage, choice and self-discovery, where timeless melodies like In My Own Little Corner and Ten Minutes Ago remind us that magic happens when we take control of our own destiny.

The Book of Mormon

At Teatro Rialto, laughter takes center stage with The Book of Mormon, the irreverent hit that has delighted audiences from Broadway to London. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park), together with Robert Lopez (Frozen, Coco), this musical—winner of nine Tony Awards and four Olivier Awards (including Best Musical)—has captivated over nine million spectators worldwide. With a live band and a cast of 33 performers, the Madrid production, directed by David Serrano and choreographed by Iker Carrera, offers an evening full of humor, energy and irresistible fun.

We Will Rock You

The music of Queen roars again at Gran Teatro CaixaBank Príncipe Pío with We Will Rock You, co-produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor themselves. Set in a dystopian future where music is forbidden, the story follows Galileo and a group of rebels fighting to bring rock back to a silenced world. Featuring Queen’s greatest anthems—Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions, Somebody to Love and more—this powerful production captures the sound, spirit and spectacle of one of the greatest bands in history. Performances run Friday to Sunday, from October 11 to February 28, 2026.

Houdini, the magical musical

From October 9 to December 1, Teatro Calderón presents the Spanish premiere of Houdini, a new and fascinating musical inspired by the life of the world’s most famous illusionist. Written and directed by Federico Bellone and starring Pablo Puyol and Julia Möller, the production recreates Houdini’s final performance in 1926, from his humble beginnings to his rise to legend. Featuring more than 20 jaw-dropping illusions—including the iconic “Chinese Water Torture Cell” and the appearance of an elephant—Houdini blends Broadway flair with Hungarian folk influences, revealing the man behind the magic and the heart that defied every limit.

The Pillars of the Earth

Ken Follett’s masterpiece, The Pillars of the Earth, premieres its world-first musical adaptation at Teatro Gran Vía from November 20, 2025, to February 1, 2026. With 360º projections, surround sound and AI-enhanced technology, the show transports audiences to 12th-century England in an immersive journey through faith, ambition and the birth of Gothic architecture. Created by Iván Macías and Félix Amador, the duo behind El médico, this major production combines music, theatre and cutting-edge technology to turn one of the world’s most beloved stories into a fully sensory experience.

Oliver Twist, the musical

From November 12 to January 31, Teatro La Latina presents Oliver Twist, a new musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic produced by AMR Produce, creators of Les Choristes. With a cast of over 30 performers and original songs by Pedro Víllora and Gerardo Gardelín, the show reimagines the story of a young orphan searching for his place in 19th-century London. Filled with emotion, hope and spectacular staging, Oliver Twist invites audiences to rediscover an enduring tale that continues to inspire the dreamer within us all.

Searching for Audrey, the musical

Beginning November 27, 2025, the new Teatro Audrey hosts the world premiere of Audrey Hepburn: The Musical, a celebration of the life and legacy of the iconic Hollywood star. Produced by Since 1953 Productions with Sean Hepburn Ferrer, and featuring original music by Grammy- and Goya-winning composer Fernando Velázquez, the show blends humor, tenderness and timeless elegance. Set on Broadway in search of its leading lady, it includes My Love, Henry Mancini’s last unreleased song, and invites audiences to rediscover Audrey’s magic in a story as radiant as she was.

Les Misérables

Starting November 28, 2025, Les Misérables returns to Teatro Apolo, the very stage where it first captivated Spanish audiences in 1992, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of its London premiere. Presented by ATG Entertainment and Cameron Mackintosh, the beloved work of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg remains a pinnacle of musical theatre, with more than 130 million spectators and over 180 international awards. Set in post-Revolution France, Les Misérables tells a story of love, sacrifice and redemption through unforgettable songs that continue to resonate across generations.
